The Oxford Photographic Society is hosting a talk entitled "The Lifeboat Station Project" with Jack Lowe on Tuesday 10 May 19.30-21.30. Tickets cost £5.00 and can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-lifeboat-station-project-jack-lowe-tickets-335552114407?fbclid=IwAR3l_U0g5ZB-7T2uDt0hXF6YJ_n9DMdkAOzAHTwn5BgqrUP2d8uqIRgH76w
On Tuesday 10 May at 19.30 the Oxford Photographic Society will welcome Jack Lowe visiting i.e. "zooming" - from Newcastle to talk about the amazing - "The Lifeboat Station Project" - a 10 Year Mission to Photograph 238 RNLI Lifeboat Stations on Glass which he started in 2015. Using an early Victorian process known as wet collodion, Jack is crafting unique handmade photographs on glass at all 238 RNLI lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland.
Since 2013, He has been making his photographs exactly as the Victorians used to between the 1850s and 1880s using a process known as wet collodion.
The photographs are made directly onto glass or metal. The whole procedure — from sensitising the plate through to developing and fixing it — is carried out using a portable darkbox or, in more recent years, a decommissioned NHS ambulance called Neena.
It's a fascinating talk about a unique project.
Non members can join us on Tuesday by purchasing for £5 a ticket via Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-lifeboat-station-project-jack-lowe-tickets-335552114407?fbclid=IwAR3l_U0g5ZB-7T2uDt0hXF6YJ_n9DMdkAOzAHTwn5BgqrUP2d8uqIRgH76w

Withymead Spring Open Days
Greetings from us all at Withymead!
Spring 2022 is well under way after a very mild and dry winter, and we are very pleased to share that our first Loddon Lilies have started to flower. We would like to welcome you and all the family back by opening up a little early this year for a wildlife nature trail on Mothering Sunday. The birds are singing, the bees are flying and it’s the perfect way to immerse yourself in the changing of the seasons and the wildlife that the Goring Gap has to offer.
We are opening our gates between 11am-3pm on Sunday 27th March so all the family can delight in the reserve: an opportunity to stretch your legs and get some fresh air and share in the joy of the approaching sunny seasons. Keep the little ones busy with our special children’s nature trail and enjoy the beautiful setting. Pick up a trail sheet and pencil from the Study Centre when you arrive and see what you can find as you go round the reserve. When you've finished come back to the Study Centre for some light refreshments - and remember to hand in your completed trail for a chance to win a prize!
As spring unfolds it's a great time to get out into nature, and our Loddon Lilies Sundays continue throughout April and into the first two weeks of May, including our first Cream Tea Sunday of the year on Sunday 24th April. We've listed all the dates below. Open to all 2-5pm and this year with no need to book, Friends and Patrons will also remember they receive complimentary refreshments for themselves and a guest on Cream Tea open days: another great reason to visit.
After the success of last year's private bookings, we're delighted to be offering pre-booked visits open to all once more on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer season. See later in this newsletter for the details of how to book. Friends and Patrons can also contact us at the Reserve if they would like to visit out of these times, subject to availability.
However you choose to visit us this year, we look forward to welcoming you, and that your deep and profound connection with this special place by the River Thames continues to grow.

You may remember us from our contact last year but now that the world is opening up and beginning to fill with opportunity once again, we would love to re-connect!
My name is Samuel Cox and, alongside my colleague Sophie Brown, we run a photographic safari company called RAW Photographic, specialising in small group photographic trips to Southern and Eastern Africa. Although currently based in the UK, we cater to guests worldwide with the focus of providing specialised photographic teaching and unforgettable wildlife experiences.
I am writing as these trips are designed specifically with photographers (of all different levels) in mind and as such I think could be of interest to some of your clubs or to some of your members. I would love the opportunity to discuss this further with you and provide some additional information. I was hoping you may also be happy to pass on our website information to your members as well (please see info listed at the end of this email).
We have scheduled trips throughout 2022 and 2023 in some of Africa’s leading hotspots for wildlife, visiting bucket list destinations for big cat, elephant, and bird lovers alike. All the destinations we visit provide a true abundance of subjects for any nature enthusiast or photographer of any ability to embrace.
In addition to scheduled trips, we are also able to facilitate private bespoke group trips throughout the year across any of our Southern and Eastern African locations. Trips can last from a few days to a few weeks, cross multiple destinations and focus on specific topics the group desires. It is purely customisable to the needs of the group, and we use our knowledge, experience, and expertise to put together the best itinerary that focuses on making sure everyone gets the most out of the experience - whether it’s your first or twentieth African adventure.
Both Sophie and I have a wealth of experience living and teaching wildlife photography in Africa to international guests of all abilities. We are both passionate about the beauty of Africa and its wildlife and are keen to share its magic with like-minded photographers and nature enthusiasts. We are dedicated to providing the very best experiences and learning opportunities for our guests and this is reflected in the consistent and excellent feedback we are proud to have received from previous guests we have hosted.
