"Seeing, Learning and Enjoying"
(our theme for the 2020-21 season)

Picture
Whatever equipment you use, what really matters is the images you produce. Do they excite you? Do they catch the interest of others? As photographers there is one piece, or perhaps more accurately two pieces, of equipment we all own, which rank above everything else: our eyes. We have to “see” the image before we press the shutter. If you can train yourself to pre-visualise your final image at the time of capture, you are on the way to making better photographs.

As a member of the club, and as part of the Seeing process, you are encouraged to take every opportunity to learn from others about what makes a good photograph. Learn by sharing your images with other members of the club and asking for feedback. Learn by participating in the practical evenings. Learn by entering images into the Critique Evening. Learn by entering club competitions. Learn by joining our Image Appreciation Circle on Flickr, or the club's private Facebook group. Learn from our guest speakers and by visiting exhibitions and exchanging ideas about photography with other club members.

Above all, we want members to Enjoy their photography.

OLYMPUS LANDSCAPES WITH DAVID HUGHES

Olympus recently organised a Landscape Photography workshop on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Since it combined two of my favourite things, Dorset and my passion for photography, it was a must. Hosted by local photographer, Tom Ormerod, the day included photographing the amazing Jurassic coastline, wave and rock photography at sunset and a Milky Way shoot after dark.
While the light for the coastal shoot was a little flat, it was great to learn new techniques and try several lenses loaned by Olympus.
