Digital images are more formally known as "Digital Projected Images" (DPI). if you are entering a competition your DPI file must conform to the following set up:

  • Format: JPEG (JPEG 1 / ISO/IEC 10918)

  • Maximum file size: 5MB

  • Image ratio: Any

  • Image resolution: Any

  • Recommend image ratio: 16:9

The name of the file must be submitted in the following syntax:

        <your name>_<photo title>.jpg

E.g.

        John Smith_Reflections.jpg

It is vital that you follow these guidelines.

Your DPI image must be emailed to: wpc.competitions@gmail.com by midnight on the Sunday preceding the competition. You will receive an automated reply to say that your image has been received. No late entries will be allowed unless by prior agreement.

Image Resolution

During internal competitions, images will be displayed using Dicentra, using an HD (1920x1080) 16:9 projector.

Images smaller than 1920x1080 (w x h) will be automatically centred in the display against a black background. â€‹E.g. a 1400x1050 image will fit inside the projector display:

Images exceeding 1920x1080 in any dimension will be automatically scaled down by Dicentra to maintain their original ratio and to fit within the projector display â€‹â€‹E.g. a 1924x1544 image exceeds the 1080 project display height and will be scaled down to fit within a 1920x1080 rectangle:

Alternatively, a 7680x4320 (8K) image will downscale and fill the entire projector display as the image size is 16:9 ratio::

Note: Judges may preview DPIs before competitions and may be using higher-resolution displays, where the original submitted image may appear small and/or lack detail. External competitions may also utilise higher-resolution display equipment.

For maximum quality and control of the entire projector display, it’s recommended to submit a 16:9 image at the highest non-scaled resolution you have available. Your photo may sit within the 16:9 “frame”, allowing you to set the background colour. The image file must be less than 5 megabytes in size.

For example, a 2560x1440 image will fill the entire projector display. Here, the red border is part of the submitted image file:

Recommendations

For maximum quality, submit your image with the highest resolution without scaling, ensuring the total file size is no greater than 5MB.

For maximum display control and quality, submit your image within a 16:9 canvas at any resolution, ensuring the total file size is no greater than 5MB

For simplicity, submit your image with a height of at least 1400 pixels, ensuring the total file size is no larger than 5MB.
